Drones Product Safety Plan shapes the commercialization of different types of drone products. For this reason, it has been a priority for regulators from the beginning in the European Union (E.U).

Several directives and recommendations were developed to ensure an appropriate circulation of products inside the E.U. market.

As drones are also considered a European market product, several regulatory proposals are being developed by different entities and organizations.

For example, EASA’s NPA-(A), released in July 2017, proposes the mandatory declaration of conformity and CE marking for RPAS under the “open” category.

According to the last normative modifications in the E.U, product conformity turns into an essential concept for the drone sector.

EASA’s regulatory proposal for the open category (low risk – small UAS) provides some specific rules for placing these vehicles in the market through a product conformity process where is included the CE marking, starting later this year.

Product Conformity Assessment

Our first scope is to identify the applicable directives,  for example: 

  • Radio Equipment Directive (RED)

Establish a regulatory framework for placing radio equipment on the free market.

Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU.

  • Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC)

Guarantees that electrical and electronic equipment does not generate, or is not affected by, electromagnetic disturbance.

Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) 2014/30/EU

  • Machinery Directive (MD)

Assurances a high level of protection for EU workers and citizens. As it is a ‘New Approach’ Directive, it promotes harmonization through a combination of mandatory health and safety requirements and voluntary harmonized standards.

Machinery Directive (MD) 2006/42/EC

  • Low Voltage Directive (LVD)

Ensures that electrical equipment within certain voltage limits provides a high level of protection.

Declaration of Conformity & CE Marking

We provide support in the process to achieve a Declaration of Conformity (DoC). This includes all the relevant information to:

  1. Identify the product
  2. Legislation according which it is issued
  3. Manufacturer (or authorized representative)
  4. Notified body and a reference to harmonized standards
  5. Other normative documents where appropriate.
